WHAT IS PMCS?
THE PHILADELPHIA MONTESSORI CHARTER SCHOOL:
- is a FREE, PUBLIC charter school.
- is a Montessori
school. Montessori is a proven method of education that focuses on the
development of the whole child, utilizing mixed-age classrooms, hands-on
education, and individually-paced instruction.
- places peace education at the
cornerstone of the educational design.
- Adapts well to the needs of many special needs
students due to its emphasis on multi-sensory presentation,
the multitude of hands-on work, individualized tasks and inherent self-pacing
of the lessons.
- is open to all Philadelphia residents
(if the school over enrolls, students are selected by lottery).
- opened in September 2004 with
144 children ages
three through twelve (preschool through third grade). The
school will add one grade per year until we reach sixth grade during
the 2007/08 school year.

MISSION
The mission of the Philadelphia Montessori Charter School is to provide
early childhood and elementary school children in Philadelphia with a
comprehensive, developmentally appropriate, innovative educational environment
that will enable them to become young adults possessing strong self-discipline,
independent and analytic thinking skills and an enduring love of learning.
